Your first Intune mental model

You do not need a tenant and will not change a device. You only plan what should later be managed and verified.

This exercise is freely available and shows the thinking behind the course tasks. It is not one of the course modules; those work hands-on in your own tenant.

Task

Read the case. Then write one sentence each for target, settings and evidence.

Device
A new company laptop with Windows 11. It is not assigned to a person yet.
Person
A new sales employee who mainly works while travelling.
Need
The device needs encryption, a browser, Microsoft 365 Apps and a controlled update schedule.
Evidence
IT must be able to see whether setup, encryption and software arrived.

Your three sentences

  1. 1. Target: Who or which device should receive something?
  2. 2. Setting: Which apps and rules are needed, and why?
  3. 3. Evidence: How will you know the goal was achieved?

A narrowly scoped pilot group receives the configuration first; not every device at once.

Encryption, required apps and a tested update ring cover the stated work need.

Reports, device status and a pilot-user test provide technical and practical evidence.

This pattern of target, setting and evidence sits behind almost every good Intune task.
